The Fridays in a nutshell
The Fridays is a non trading Members’ Club. The Club was formed in 2006 with a simple idea: cycle from the City to the seaside overnight. From this simple idea we have grown into a successful club with over 200 active members.
We do a variety of different types of rides:
Friday Night Rides to the Coast remain an important part of our club and we regularly attract over 40 cyclists on these rides that are run from March to October.
Daytime social rides, which include themed rides around London, but also further afield.
Tours in the UK and abroad - these normally attract over 25 riders.
The Club is an affiliate member group of Cycling UK who provide insurance for our group cycling rides. We also require regular riders to become a paid up member of the club.
The Club is run by a committee composed of experienced members, many of whom lead rides or tours throughout the year. We do not have any formal titles for members of the committee and there is a shared responsibility for activities, such as managing finances, running the website or carrying out secretarial work.
The Club charges a membership fee to cover expenses such as insurance, our website, publicity and ride planning software. We normally retain a surplus to cover any unexpected costs.
We have arrangements with a number of organisations who provide refreshments for our night rides. We collect a fee from members and pass this onto to the organisation, such as a local Scout group or charity. We also regularly make donations to these organisations as an additional thank you for their help.
We purchase memorabilia such as badges and stickers which are given away to our members to help promote the Club.Â
We have an approved kit provider, but individual members need to purchase this directly from the supplier.
If the Club were to be closed down any surplus funds would be donated to charities chosen by the Committee.
