London to Burnham-on-Crouch 2026

For our final night ride of the year, we’re returning to the east with a new destination of Burnham-on-Crouch, replacing last year’s ride to Maldon. At just a hair under 100km/over 60 miles and with only 630 metres of climbing, this will be an easy capstone for the season and an ideal last stretch of your night riding legs. Departure will be from Fridays Central at the National Theatre at midnight, but as usual please arrive by 23:30 for registration and briefings.

Our route will take us out of London through the edges of the Olympic park and past Wanstead Flats, with a gentle climb at Chase Cross before crossing the M25 to make it to our halfway stop at Tipps Cross. This is operating on the “bring your own sandwiches” model we’ve used several times this year. Your non-refundable £5 payment covers hall hire, hot drinks and cake; but please bring your own picnic if you want anything more substantial. 

From there, we’ll set off into the dawn, skirting the edges of Chelmsford before turning south-east to ride into the sun and the shoreline of Burnham for a well-earned breakfast. Trains back to London can be found every 40 minutes from the local station, or for those feeling sprightly after breakfast there is a fine route back to Shenfield for the Elizabeth line that takes in the local ferry.
